Description
“The Pacific “”V”” for victory in this penny remembers 1945 and Australia’s role in defeating tyranny in the Asia-Pacific region. Between 1939 and 1945 almost one million Australian men and women served in the Second World War, fighting in Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa and, after Japan’s entry into the war in December 1941, across the Asia-Pacific. Victory in the Pacific Day (VP Day) is commemorated each year on August 15. Also referred to as VJ Day (Victory over Japan), VP Day commemorates the unconditional surrender of Japan to the Allied Forces on 14 August 1945. “
